It’s hard to believe that we will soon be ringing in 2009! We are excited
to begin a new year of fun and learning together! In January, the children
will
participate
in the Nassau Reading Council’s Young Author’s Contest! The purpose of
this contest is to encourage writing in the classroom and to honor quality
work. All of our 3rd graders will write a personal
narrative, which is writing derived from an author’s own experience. A
student’s feelings are expressed as personal events are recreated. We are
looking forward to studying the personal narrative genre! During the week
of January 12th, the children will participate in the NYS ELA Assessment.
The children have been
exposed
to all concepts that will be presented on this test, and we are confident
that they will all do well. In math, we will focus on the process of
multiplication. In science, the children will learn more about organisms
and their habitats. In
Social Studies, we will begin our study of other countries, with our first
stop in China! The children will discover the similarities and differences
between children in China and children in the United States. We will also
enjoy l earning
about the culture, art, and important landmarks of China! We are excited
to begin this fascinating ‘journey’ together.
The third grade teachers
wish all our Woodland families a beautiful new year, filled with peace,
hope, and
happiness! We look forward to seeing you all in 2009!
Fondly~ Mrs. Callahan, Mrs. Cervantes, and Mrs. Fusco
