Theater

The theater program provides a forum for students to work in an environment designed to nurture creativity and develop poise and confidence. The theater environment encourages personal growth, builds self esteem and expands performance skills.

Budding thespians begin performing at the elementary schools under the direction of their teachers. At the middle school, theater is formalized as a club activity which culminates with a school musical. At the high school theater courses are offered in the elective schedule. Skills are developed through theater games, improvisations, scenes and monologues. Stage movement, dance, fencing and simple stunts are taught as an interdisciplinary course with physical education. Theater workshop helps the students develop skills in improvisation, stage production and directing. Hicksville High School stages three major productions each year through the audition process. The fall production is scheduled before Thanksgiving and is a comedy or drama. An early spring production is usually a musical jointly prepared with the music department and there is a late spring production of "Theater in the Round" which is either a comedy or drama.
