Curriculum

Music

An appreciation for music is nurtured with a general music curriculum for grades K-5. Through vocal and instrumental music children learn to read and write music and appreciate their musical heritage. All students have an opportunity to study instrumental music with string instruments in third grade and band instruments beginning in fourth grade. Small group lessons and instruments are provided to students who pursue an interest in band and orchestra. Public performances for chorus, band and orchestra are given throughout the school year. All qualifying students are encouraged to prepare for competition in NYSSMA each year as well.

At the Middle School students may continue and expand their studies by participating in piano and music appreciation. Jazz band, string ensemble and Fiddlers Philharmonic offer middle school students an opportunity to explore individual interests and pursue and develop a passion for music. Public performances are given throughout the school year for chorus, band and orchestra.

At the High School passionate pursuits and explorations in music expand to elective courses. Students may choose to participate in marching band, color guard, jazz band, madrigal singers, and string ensemble. Public performances of all groups are given throughout the year providing the students with an opportunity to share their joy of music with the community.
