The Hicksville Public School Board of Education is comprised of seven local community members. The Board welcomes district residents, faculty members, students, and any other interested persons to attend our meetings. Your presence indicates your commitment to our schools and the children of this district. Your involvement is appreciated.
Board meetings are held at the Administration Building located at 200 Division Avenue, unless otherwise noted. The Board regularly holds one action meeting and one meeting for committees each month. Additional meetings are scheduled on an as needed basis. Each Board meeting proceeds in accordance with a published agenda, which is available to the public two days before the scheduled meeting. At the discretion of the Board the public is given the opportunity to ask questions or voice comments, concerns or suggestions pertaining to the school district during the designated portion of the meeting. No one person or group of persons acts in the name of the Board of Education. When any item of business comes before the Board in the form of a motion, it is necessary that at least four votes be cast in favor of the motion for the Board to act. The Board has complete and final control over local school matters subject only to limitations imposed by state law, regulations of the State Commissioner of Education, and the will of the local residents as determined in district elections. The Board collaborates with the superintendent, staff, community, and the State Education Department to discharge a broad range of responsibilities.
District committee meetings covering the areas of Curriculum, Facilities, Finance and Policy, are held monthly. Each committee consists of one Board member as Chairperson, a representative of administration and volunteer community members. Residents are invited to attend committee meetings to hear first-hand what each committee is learning from presenters, officials or committee members themselves. All in attendance have an opportunity to participate and ask questions with regard to agenda topics.
We sincerely appreciate your interest in the district and hope to see you at future Board of Education meetings.
